Why has the test changed?
Over time, the needs of the construction industry and that of the modern workforce will change. To ensure that the test remains relevant, fit for purpose and reflects changes made to legislation, working practices and new technology, we’ve updated both the test and the revision materials.
Equipped with the most up to date and accurate information, managers and professionals will be able to confidently lead their teams on health, safety and environment matters.
Our purpose is to support the construction industry in developing and maintaining a safe, skilled and competent workforce, both now and in the future. To do that, our tests must be relevant - it’s about keeping people safe. It’s that simple.
What are the changes?
Managers and professionals in the construction industry are responsible for complying with, embedding and implementing effective HS&E practices. Ultimately, this reduces the number of fatalities and accidents.
To support this, we have:
- updated and extended the range of subjects covered in the test
- updated existing questions and added new ones
- updated our revision materials.
What new subjects does the test cover?
The test already covers six key areas, including:
- Legal and management
- Health and welfare
- General safety
- High risk activities
- Environment
- Specialist activities
However, based on industry feedback the following topics have been enhanced within the existing key areas.
- Mental health
- Leadership
- Occupational health governance
- Behavioural safety
- New technologies
- Improving legislative compliance.
What does this mean for me?
We strongly recommend that all candidates revise to give themselves the best chance of passing their test.
Anyone taking the test should allow adequate time for revision and become familiar with the new content before taking the test.
- The new revision materials, which have been developed to align with the changes to the test, are available to buy from the CITB Shop, Apple App Store and Google Play,
- All revision material is clearly labelled and signposted with the latest version number, so you can be assured that you are getting the right revision material for your test.
- A sample test has been created to provide an indication of the types of questions and different subject areas included in the new MAP test. There are 14 questions for you to try. The sample test should not be used in isolation, but as part of your revision.
