This three-day training course is for anyone with little or no previous experience of setting out. This may include supervisors, foreman and site supervisors.
It introduces the essential instrumentation and techniques required to perform levelling and setting out.
You will gain a CITB National Construction College Certificate.
Course content
This course includes:
- Basic setting out calculations
- Using automatic levels
- Using HPC levels
- Two peg test for level
- Measuring angles and basic trigonometry
- Setting out small projects using a theodolite (total station)
- Formation profiles.

You will also gain the confidence and ability to carry out basic setting out and levelling operations
Entry requirements
- Good spoken and written English.
- Good working knowledge of maths (specifically geometry and trigonometry).
- Physical ability to do manual work such as lifting and moving loads.
