This three-day course teaches you how to inspect plant machinery. You will learn about legislation, responsibilities, inspection procedures and reporting methods.

It is ideal for anyone with an engineering background and several years' experience in plant maintenance who wants to become a competent person for plant inspections.

You will receive a CITB National Construction College Certificate.

Course content

The course includes:

  • The Provision and Use of Work Equipment Regulations 1998 (PUWER)
  • Lifting Operations and Lifting Equipment Regulations 1998 (LOLER)
  • Areas of responsibility
  • Inspections of equipment including mechanical, hydraulic and lifting
  • Practical inspection exercises
  • Recording inspections
  • Reporting defects.

Teaching and assessment 

Classroom-based tutorials and practical training exercises

Learners will be assessed carrying out a full inspection of an item of plant

  1. A relevant engineering background.
  2. Several years' experience in plant maintenance.
  3. Good spoken and written English.
