Construction Hoist Installer

Overview

This standard guides learners through every aspect of the process including necessary legal requirements, roles and responsibilities, troubleshooting and the practical application of skills.

Purpose/scope

Evidence of a 6 months minimum of supervised experience as a Hoist Installer or alternatively equivalent Statement of Competence from employer.

This standard guides learners through every aspect of the process including necessary legal requirements, roles and responsibilities, troubleshooting and the practical application of skills. 

The purpose of this standard is to provide the learner with the knowledge and skills to support the following:

  • The course has been designed to equip operatives with the necessary knowledge and skills to safely install, examine, and dismantle construction hoists, in all standard configurations indicated by the manufacturer, adhering to legal obligations and industry best practices.
  • An understanding of Safe Systems of Work (SSoW), including risk assessments and method statements.
  • In-depth technical theory and supervised on-site practice for installation and dismantling of hoists.

The scope for this standard will include the following three categories:

  • Transport Platform Hoists (TPH): Designed to carry both people and work materials.
  • Goods Hoists (GH): Designed to carry only work materials.
  • Passenger Hoists (PH): Designed to carry both people and work materials.

Successful learners will receive a digital certificate via the IPAF ePAL app.

Delivery

The following delivery methods may be used in the delivery of this standard:

  • face to face learning environment only (such as classroom/workshop etc.)

This standard is predominantly practical training (approximately 70% practical vs. 30% theory).

This standard is considered to be set at an intermediate level.

Quality assurance

Recognised

CITB will gain assurance through the Recognised Organisation’s quality arrangements.

Approved Training Organisation’s will be required to supply confirmation of approval (centre approval and scheme approval) with the related Recognised Organisation’s awarding organisation or body. In most cases this will be an approval certificate provided by the Recognised Organisation’s awarding organisation or body, listing the routes, qualifications, and categories they are approved to deliver. In addition, a copy of the most recent external quality assurance monitoring report will be required, relating to the standard that you wish to be approved for.

This information will be reviewed by CITB’s quality assurance team. Approval will be subject to the required Recognised Organisation’s documentation being supplied by you. As part of the quality assurance checks, CITB may confirm the accuracy of documentation with the issuing organisation.

Additional information about this standard

Correct installation and dismantling of construction hoists must be carried out by a trained person to ensure the equipment is safe and effective to use throughout its duration on site.
